Hello, I'm having exactly the same issue and have also had no luck using the above settings (as messyhead). Has anyone got a definitive answer? Thanks in anticipation.

Hi I am looking at getting a blackberry and have the same problem.  I have tried on my pc to connect it using IMAP but when choosing imap.mail.yahoo.com it is not authenticating.  I have a btinternet.com address.

I posted this last week on another thread without getting a response so I'll try here. It's not the answer, but I hope it will prompt one from someone who knows about these things.

 

I had BTanywhere and a HTC S620 and it accessed my mail and kept in sync. I've now got an HTC desire (not on BT) and I can't get it to work in he same way.

 

In summary a working HTC S620 is (auto) configured as follows:

i/c mail server

address -  imap.mail.yahoo.com

account type - IMAP4 (not changeable)

Username & password - xxxx.@btinternet.com & my normal password

 

o/g (SMTP) mail server

address - smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com

outgoing server requires authentication

Username & password - same as sending

does NOT require SSL for i/c mail

does NOT require SSL for o/g mail

 

I can only get the desire to work using POP - auto configured

 

i/c server

Protocol - POP

address - pop3.btinternet.com

 

o/g (SMTP) mail server

address - mail.btinternet.com

login required

 

I believe I need to setup the account on the desire as type 'exchange active sync' but need to correctly complete the following that I have so far failed todo:

 

email address - ok that's easy

server address - hmm - i/c or o/g - tried both

Domain - help... tried btinternet

Username - is that my email without the @btinternet.com?

server required ssl - which i reckon should be no

 

I keep getting failed to connect to the exch server as i step through the setup process

 

I have now read that the issue is with the client (mail app on the phone) in that a non-standard IMAP command needs to be sent before login is done, namely: “ID ("GUID" "1")”.

 

sooo - any ideas?

Sorry to drag this one up. but I am trying to access my emails using imap from my laptop using Mozzilla Thurnderbird and can't send messages.

 

Does anyone know what the outgoing server settings need to be?

Apologies if this information has already been posted before.

 

For basic BT Yahoo Mail IMAP information.

 

Login to BT Yahoo Mail.

Select Options>More Options from the top right.

Select Mail for Mobile on the left.

This should take you to http://uk.mobile.yahoo.com/mail

Select the IMAP tab in the middle of the page.

 

The basic settings are:-

 

Incoming

Server   = imap.mail.yahoo.com

Type     = IMAP

Username = xxxx@yahoo.com   (xxxx@btinternet.com also worked fine for me)

Password = as normal

Security = SSL

Port     = 993

Outgoing

Server   = smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Type     = SMTP

Username = xxxx@yahoo.com   (xxxx@btinternet.com also worked fine for me)

Password = as normal

Security = SSL

Port     = 465

 

 

I have successfully used these settings to access my @btinternet.com email accounts via IMAP using both Thunderbird on a laptop and the standard mail client on an HTC Desire mobile phone.

Note: There was one issue with the phone mail client storing duplicates of sent messages. This was solved on the HTC Desire by downloading and using the free K-9 mail client from the Android Market.
