BT INFINITY wifi loss on MacBook Air ready to quit.

So never had issues on hh3 since upgrade to hh5 ready to throw the thing in the bin. No issues on iPhones , iPads, MacBook. iMac, but MacBook Air is a real problem as main computer . My wifi keeps dropping since instillation in October and that was issue too. Always have to log in each time . In the network on system preferences under bthub it says on but no IP address. When I have to add password I constantly get invalid password it is correct password.please help and any info in basic term run through please as need to explain to others in the family.constantly without wifi. Only difference this time is home hub 5 downstairs 1 floor and not upstairs. Bt suggested a booster or something but didn't need before. Oh and speed wise when connected it flies. Thank you for advice and help.

Have you tried using 'Assist me...' in the Network Prefs. It's a clever little thing.

Re: BT INFINITY wifi loss on MacBook Air ready to quit.

Yes I have and diagnostics on the odd accasion it works . When looking via my account on my phone it looks like my phone and MacBook are on 5 and others are on 2.5. It says go on to bt set up but in settings it asks for the key on hub but says it invalid. I don't think the open reach guy set it up right . It says I can over rule password and change smart wifi on hub should I try this via my phone tomorrow . And then get back to you if I get stuck.

Re: BT INFINITY wifi loss on MacBook Air ready to quit.

Make sure you have "Smart Set Up" turned off. See link how to do that.

Some Apple devices seem to have a problem with the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz frequencies having the same SSid (name)

Try giving the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies different SSids. Just add a 5 to the end of the 5Ghz SSid so you know which is which. Check the 5 GHz Sync with 2.4 GHz: is set to NO.

Once you have done that "forget" the connection on your devices and then restart your devices and log onto both SSids. Your devices that can use both frequencies should then automatically switch to the strongest signal.

See this link

To turn off "Smart Wireless"  and get the best out of selecting a fixed channel you should download a Wifi Analyser app for you smartphone.

It will show you the wireless channels and which one your Homehub is on. You want to find the channel with the least congestion, ie. least number of users. Once you have that you need to change your homehub onto that channel. If you don't see any clear channel try channel 13 for the 2.4Ghz frequency. The 5Ghz frequency is not usually as congested and because it's range is limited it is usually not such a problem.

See link how to change channel on homehub

Re: BT INFINITY wifi loss on MacBook Air ready to quit.

If you move your Macbook right next to the hub it should flip on to 5Ghz and you can see if you still have a problem, or nip into a Costa Coffee for free Wifi an see if the problem persists there. However it may be worth doing a factory reset of the Hub. This should set the passwords back to default and 'clear its mind’ although if other devices are connecting OK it does suggest a Mac problem.

Re: BT INFINITY wifi loss on MacBook Air ready to quit.

Have the exact same issue, only when using HH5.

Seen it using a MacBook Pro and also when using an AppleTV. Used the laptop in many different offices/etc & never had any issue. It almost seems that a decent amount of traffic being sent causes an issue, seems to cut off when downloading at high speed or streaming to device.

Has the browser been quit? The HH stores a temporary cookie, why I don’t know. Worth a try if it hasn’t.
