Turning the wireless on/off on a HH3. Connecting other PC via an ethernet

I have been having problems with the broadband dropping out. BT technical say its acceptable that it drops out a couple of times a day, so i decided to try and connect up an ethernet to get better connection speeds. I'd also like to turn the wireless connection off for safety reasons (perhaps a bit paranoid?)

I've now got CAT6 cable to two other PCs in my home. These are connected to the patch plate by the router ready for connection with patch leads.

I'd be grateful for some help as how to a) turn of the wireless and b) talk me through how to activate the ethernet to my other PC's.

One last question, if i turn off the wireless, can i turn it on at will so as visitors can log on to their laptops?

Many thanks.

How can I turn off wireless

Hi,

I want to turn off the wireless network on my bt home hub but when I go into the HH interface there's no option to turn it off. Its a HH 2 with 1 hub phone attached.

Any ideas please.

Thank you

[ Edited ]

You cannot turn the wireless off without losing your free BTOpenzone and FON access when you are out and about.

If you opt out of this service, then you will be able to disable wireless.

The wireless network on the HH 2 is very secure, if you are turning it off for that reason.

Re: How can I turn off wireless

Dont think fon is disabled instantly may take a day or longer and a hub rest may be needed when it is

Re: How can I turn off wireless

Reset hub back to factory settings, this should clear the configuration file entry for FON.

Re: Turning the wireless on/off on a HH3. Connecting other PC via an ethernet

To turn off wireless enter the hub manager go to settings then advanced then wireless and the option to turn off wireless is there

as to connecting your other pcs by ethernet there is nothing to set up just connect an ethernet cable to the pc and  conect the other end to the hub

Re: Turning the wireless on/off on a HH3. Connecting other PC via an ethernet

John,

I appreciate your help - i'm obviously not very PC literate as i went into the Home Hub Manager and couldn't see the advanced settings to turn off the wireless connection? Only settings to change my password. HH3 appears different to HH2?

I also read on the help section that the network connection should be changed when using an ethernet connection. Is this something different to simply turning the wireless off and hard wiring to the router?
