EE Box freezes when fastforwarding a recording

I have a persistent problem when playing a recording and trying to fastforward - it doesn't happen all the time but often enough to be a nuisance - while fastforwarding the recording freezes and the back button, play and forward/reverse button do not work - the only way out is to press the home button. This does two things, it changes the live play to channel 1 and when I go back to the recordings the one I was watching has returned to the start and it takes several minutes to find where I was in the recording. I have tried all the usual things even to the stage of soft reset and full factory reset which means losing all my recordings and settings and having to log on again to all apps - a real pain. Eventually BT sent me a new Box and remote and I renewed all the cables and connections but the problem is still there.  I use a cable connection so WiFi is not the problem. So any ideas anyone?

     I have had exactly the same problem for some while.Probably,like myself,you've also found that as well as reverting to  Channel 1 if you have any simultaneous Channels being Recorded they are discontinued and you have to re-start them in the EPG.

          I am amazed that even more people haven't been suffering this,especially as you say a replacement Box has not helped.

      This has happened far less in the last few days and  indications are that the problem has mostly been addressed,excepting TNT Sports Channels which hopefully will be sorted early 2026.

           So,hopefully not as much of a nuisance from now.

Thanks for that Graham - it would also explain why occasionally I watch a recording and it finishes half way through - I will check if there is anything else being recorded in future when it happens

We have exactly the same problem. Initially with a BT Pro Box and I Factory Reset it several times, initially keeping my recordings and then later a full reset. It didn't seem to fix the problem. I contacted EE, told them what I had done and they sent me a new EE Pro Box. Unfortunately exactly the same thing is happening. It crossed my mind that it might be something to do with the speed of our broadband, we only get about 30Mb. It is the fastest that anyone in our street gets. We definitely need an upgrade, but so far, no signs of that.

In order to investigate further I Factory Reset this EE box again and this time left out the arial cables, so that it would work in broadband mode. I wasn't sure if it would work bearing in mind our current speed, BUT all is now working fine. Things are not quite as flexible as antenna mode, for example the box uses iPlayer to play things back and also ITVX for the ITV things, unfortunately not letting me skip the adverts, but the other things are all fine.

As I mentioned, I EXPECTED our broadband to not be fast enough, but we haven't had a problem since, so it probably wasn't a broadband speed issue. I would be interested to hear how others are getting on with it.

Thanks for the info Bob - our broadband speed is 150ish so no problem there - the TV box is connected to the hub by a cable instead of using WiFi so should be a better connection - incidentally this freezing problem has only started in the last few months, we had no problem at all with the same setup for the previous couple of years

Hi Andrew.

Like you the problem only started a few months ago, but became a massive problem because I THINK when it does it, the whole EE Box is actually restarting, hence going back to channel 1 and stopping anything that is actually recording.

After I initially replied to you I spotted a similar thread in the forum from 28/11 (I tried to copy a link to it here, but it didn't work). In that thread he mentions that it only happens when using Subtitles , and it only happens when he fast forwards over the first set of adverts. Thinking about it, We are similar, we use subtitles and I have noticed that after the first crash, it doesn't freeze any more during the recording being watched.

Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it, I have seriously been thinking about not renewing EE TV after it expires and just using my Apple TVs and possibly another recording box. It crossed my mind that the extra that I pay for EE TV is far more than buying an annual Premium service for ITVX and there wouldn't be any more adverts while streaming (we tend not to watch it live because of the adverts even now)

Lets see how it goes.
