Increase in Surround Sound volume?

Has this changed in the last couple of days?

Started watching a programme yesterday evening with  volume on my amp set to the usual level only to find it way too loud and had to whack it down to the level I normally use for SD channel programmes or any of the catch up services such as iPlayer.

Does this mean they have finally recognised the discrepancy in the sound levels between the different formats and fixed it?

Yeah, I noticed the same thing recently the surround sound seems noticeably louder than before. Maybe they’ve finally sorted out the volume difference between HD/surround and SD or catch-up.

I can ask the team, if an example channel can be provided.
I'm not going to just ask them "did you change anything".

I had to turn it down last night while watching a recoding on STV @DarrenDev as it was noticeably louder

Was that on a TV Box in Internet mode @garybs29? Or from aerial?

Encoding team have confirmed no recent changes.
New YouView software was rolled out to all boxes in the last 7 days, however the release notes only mention improvements to recording reliability.

So at the moment - we don't know why it has improved.

It could be the new software has reset the default volume setting.

I've not had a problem with this, but I have seen similar when one of my computers gets an upgrade to the audio driver.  Every time it resets the default level to louder than I have it.  This sounds like something similar.

This evening was getting AD dialogue. Perhaps the software update turned that on by accident or design. Didn't notice it last night as I was apparently watching something with no AD. Turned AD off and volume levels are back to normal.
