Re: No picture.

@Attheend

How is the TV fed by the box? Is it just by the HDMI cable, or do you have the onward aerial lead from the box to the TV as well?

If you have the onward lead, do you get a picture from that?

If not, or if you don’t have an onward lead, then yes, try plugging the aerial cable direct into the TV to see if you get a picture at all, which will tell you if the TV is broken rather than the Box.

Also, if you can, as you have tried another HDMI lead,  try another HDMI In on the TV.

What’s the make and model of the TV?

I have taken all the cables out and reconnected. There is an HDM1 cable, an ethernet cable connected to the mini connector, an aerial lead from the box to a connection in the wall. Now there is no picture and no sound though both box and TV show power on.

OK, so no onward link to the TV normally.

So what does happen when you unplug the aerial from the Box and plug it direct into the TV; do you get a picture then?

(You might have to retune the TV to get the aerial channels, but that presupposes you get some sort of picture from doing the above. If still nothing, then we know it’s a TV issue).

Report back when you’ve tried this, while I look up if you can reset a Box with no picture or not, just in case.)

Is this your only TV? Because it seems that it’s failed 😢

If you had another one, you could swap it in to confirm this.

The main remedy that I know for TVs is to unplug them completely from the mains, wait two minutes for the electrons to die (if the TV has an on/off button, pressing this in will speed the process) and then plug it in again. But if the TV does nothing, not even a flash on the screen, it may be time for a new one, unless you would like a TV repairer to take a (probably chargeable) look first.

[EDIT: what happens when you put a DVD in?]

When there is a glitz what we normally do is turn off the box and the tv, also the mini connector, then turn them off at the plug. Wait 15 seconds and turn back on again. This normally clears any problem and the box re-boots. So should I disconnect the tv from the box, turn it off at the plug and wait 2 minutes, then try again?

@Attheend

Looking up your TV (whose year of manufacture I still can’t find a reference to), there were a startlingly large number of eBay posts selling replacement boards and such for this TV.

I’m not sure if this is good or bad; but I’d be inclined to replace it with a modern set if you can run to that, rather than trying to get it fixed.
