hi @pip601967 thanks for adding your insight. If you want to drop me a line with any recent examples I'll see if I can check. I'm afraid I can't condone the suggestion of "recording too many programmes at once" though - Internet and DTT modes (as in your case) have inbuilt conflict resolution to prevent over booking and ask which you want to keep, seems an advisor may have been trying to be a bit too "helpful" - sorry about that.
The EPG schedule and recording of both programme and series events depend on both the source broadcast schedule and any other enrichment (e.g. pack shots and other programme descriptions) that are added by relevant 3rd parties - that's usually a seamless operation but issues can occur and where our systems (or helpful reports here) highlight that, we do try and chase these through to minimise any impact on upcoming transmissions.
cheers
David
Hopefully just a one off.
The Apprentice has recorded fine tonight whilst I’m watching Liverpool get done 🙂
I’ve set a recording schedule for the Newcastle midday game on TNT Sport Ultimate and also the United game at 1730 which is on Now, I’ll see how it pans out.
Thanks for looking into it.
Our broadband went down just before 10 last night as I was watching the final moments of added time in the Villa game. We went into back up on the hybrid in the meantime. This meant that we were not able to watch a recording from one of the NOW channels and had to watch on catch up instead. I prefer to record as I find the live channels have better PQ than the NOW app. Fortunately the broadband was back up again in time to record the Europa League highlights show and it appears to have recorded it all with no problems.
While the scheduler will prevent you setting three recordings which overlap a given moment in time (T4000), you can still get an overlap if a programme runs over.
e.g. BBC 1 set for 21:00-22:00, BBC 2 set for 22:00-23:00, itv also set for 22:00-23:00, and then BBC 1 runs over.
So the algorithm has to decide which channel loses out, and can’t rely on the user being there to ask.
I’m not suggesting that anything like that happened in this case, but in such a corner case “recording too many programmes at once” becomes more than just a theoretical possibility.
Thanks @Midnight_Voice , that is quite right and indeed a possibility though more often seen via programme boundary shift during active recording rather than when recordings are being booked.
As you're doubtless aware, the number of concurrent DTT recordings that can be made by is limited by tuner availability, so where there is a scheduled change that introduces a conflict exceeding the remaining tuner count, the algorithm has to decide which is the "lower" priority to delete.
Why delete it? Why not postpone the start of recording the new programme which is what other PVRs do in my experience. Ok, you still miss the start but that is much the lesser evil than missing the end of a programme whether it be a murder drama denouement or a penalty shoot-out.
So I have some interesting info.
It could be related to the EE App but I’ve not throughly tested it yet.
Remember I said I scheduled the 1230 TNT game and the 1730 Sky Sports recording…well I did this from the EE app, upon checking the actual box today the 1730 Sky Sports entry said ‘Scheduling Error’, but it’s not even happened yet. So I deleted it and located the same content on the box planner and selected to record it, it added to my schedule without the error.
So I think if I had added this United Liverpool game from the box itself and not my phone it would have been fine, also I assume the error was always there even before the recording happened (failed) like it was with tomorrows.
This only happens for Sky Sports though and I’ve only tested main event, when I schedule a recording from my phone and error is there against it.
I’m sure there’s more testing I could do but that at least so far seems the issue.
Heres a screenshot.
Mental really, the schedule time is correct and it’s not even happened yet but still has an error.
I’ve just set up the Bournemouth v Man Utd match on SSME to record from the EETV app on my phone and it’s showing up on the schedule on the EETV box to record. I also have Game of the day to record on SSPL( this failed to record last week) which is on series link and was set up on the EETV box. I’m using the iOS version of the EETV app. I’ll keep checking to see if anything changes before the recordings are due.
Sometimes when using the app I’m setting up one time recordings well in advance, the maximum 7 days usually when I realise I can’t watch game live due to plans the following week.
I need to test out this scenario a bit more as it might have been fine to just make set the recording from my phone last night as well as the box, but I only set it via the former after removing the failed one. Having said that as you can see from the image the TNT schedule is there fine which I set from my phone at exactly the same time as I did the Sky one.
