Second TV box

My second BT TV box has stopped working - it only gives me access to YouView freeview stations and not the subscription channels. Do EE allow a second box and at what charge?

Your question raises further questions in order to clarify the position.

I assume that you are with BT for broadband and the second box that you mention, which has stopped working, belongs to you. It sounds as though you don’t have an extra box subscription for your second box.


EETV customers with EE broadband can have one additional box free of charge and a further box would be £10pm.

EETV customers with BT broadband can only have one additional box for a charge of £10pm.

All of the extra boxes mentioned above would give access to the subscription channels.

Hi , Yes, BT are now telling me that we can only have one recordable box. The second has to be non-recordable, and to get this, I would have to sign up to a new package and have 2 new boxes, one recordable and the other not. Aside from the fact that we won't be able to record in both rooms, the problem is that we want to keep access to the programs on the recordable box that is still working. If we want to have 2 tvs with access to the subscription channels,  then we have to have new boxes. But then we would have to disconnect the new box and reconnected the old one when we want to look at the old recordings.  The other issue is that the old recordings from any of the Sky subscription channels we have, can't be viewed unless connected to the Internet,  but of coursethe old box won'tbelinkedtoouraccount.   Not really sure what to do for the best. Any advice?

Yes, I forgot to mention that the extra box would be the mini non recordable box. As far as your old box is concerned, as long as you had it before 13th December 2019, it will be yours to keep. BT may have already told you that, but might still send you a bag to return it in. Otherwise, everything else that BT have told you is correct.

You will be able to watch the Sky recordings on your old box when you connect it to the internet. It will recognise your account from your broadband connection. We’ve got 2 recordable boxes, 1 with an EETV subscription and the other( without a subscription) which was obtained from eBay. We manage with that situation without having to take out the extra box subscription.

Thanks, that's useful to know.  We already have a second recordable BT box which worked fine up to a few days ago.  Do you think there may be any way of getting that to work again to access our subscription channels and as a recordable box ?  We own both boxes.

It depends. Which box is it? It appears that some of the older models are becoming more obsolete now. If you specify what’s happening/not happening with it, some of the more technically gifted members on here such as @Midnight_Voice  might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks, we've decided to risk changing the subscription and getting 2 new boxes, and keeping the old one that is working so we have access to old recordings.   Fingers crossed! Thanks for your help.

Hi

[EDIT: please don’t do what you have marked as the solution above - it isn’t, (which is why you are asking the ‘experts’ 😛) and there is something else going on here. Or at the least, don’t do that without reading what I have posted below, answering my questions, and trying what I suggest. The only obsolete YouView boxes are the DTR-T10x0s, and they stopped working in January, not just a few days ago]

I have a single EETV subscription, supporting my Box Pro, but I have several other YouView boxes, including the DTR-T4000 I am looking at now. And I’ve just run this up to the 300-plus channel range, and it has let me watch all the EETV-supplied channels that my subscription supports, without even asking me to switch away from my Box Pro.

Now Ive just started my Box Mini, and I can watch programmes in that range without even being asked to switch, which is odd…. Maybe EETV have given me Multiroom? 😛

But the most you should be asked, in order to use your second box to watch the EETV channels is to make it the master.

So I think something else is going on here with your second box, nothing to do with what EETV will or won’t supply you with; if you use your second, owned, box alongside your main EETV box, you should be able to use both simultaneously if you have Multiroom, and use them both individually though not simultaneously on EETV even if you don’t, just electing which is the master box at the time, the holder of the EETV ‘baton’.

So, what’s going wrong? Can you still use the apps on the affected box? Can you still see the channels above 300? What, exactly, happens if you choose one? Is the box still logged on with the same EETV account?

Can you try a Factory Reset, keeping recordings, and see if that fixes it? :-
