"We can't update your apps" - BT 4K UHD YouView box

Go to solution

Last night the Now TV app wouldn't work. It worked on Friday (29/11). After selecting a football match the screen went blank.

On an LG TV the app worked but it updated itself first (though I'd not used it on the TV before so it may never have been updated). I tried updating the BT box in settings with the result as above.

Is this a general problem or did something change in 1st December?

Hi @DaveRo,

If you are still unable to update your box or any of your apps without that error message, if you have not already done so restart your box. If it is still the same I would try a soft factory reset by going into Settings, Factory reset and selecting to  Reset and keep recordings.

Hi @DaveRo

Unfotunately that error message doesn't mean anything .. people have been noticing it when "updating" apps from the (Youview) Box Settings menu for years. On the EE community this year this was said.

The "Update apps" button doesn't actually do anything (except occasionally show an error for some people), and we have a long standing request with YouView to remove it.

App and box software update checks typically are done daily automatically assuming your box is connected and powered on.

EETV (Youview) boxes do not provide option to delete and reinstall individual apps only box resets which effectively do this for all apps.

Apologies for not responding earlier. I thought I was subscribed for email notifications, but obviously not.

We've since watched NowTV fine, so maybe Sky were having trouble streaming that match, Liverpool vs Manchester City. Overload?

Thanks again  for the replies.
