renewed contract, but...

Go to solution

Hi

I'm looking for some input, if I may...

On Friday, I renewed my contract for phone, broadband and sports. I've been with BT for over 25yrs now and, in the main, it has been hassle free.

I run my phone and hub via master socket. My YouView box is plugged in as per. I have now activated my TNT sports via discovery link but my YouView box does not support the Discovery Plus app.

I have been sent a nice sparkly new hub, with my wifi disc, hybrid connect kit etc but no new box that can support the Discovery app. My box is a Humax DTRT4000 and I have read on here that the Pro and Mini boxes support, but maybe not mine as yet.

I could buy a firestick I guess and access the Discovery app that way, but shouldnt I have a box that supports my access to the TNT sports via Discovery? BT state that they cannot access my package details as I have an "open order", but my Fibre2 with Halo 3 apparently doesnt qualifyfor a new Pro box...

I thought that, especially after 25yrs without a break, that I would be offered a box to support that which I am paying for. Grrr...do I push for one again on Monday or jump to something like Sky out of principle, which wouldnt cost me any more.

Thoughts appreciated,

Louise.

@Noranoo

I don't have any BT TV subscriptions and my T4000 has none of the appropriate apps.

Maybe the T4000 needs an update to happen to acquire the subscription apps, that is just speculation.

Otherwise I'd call Customer Options and explain that your box doesn't support the BT/EE TV subscription apps you're paying for and I'm fairly sure a Pro box would forthcoming.

@Noranoo I believe that Discovery+ is coming to the older box but due to a last minute issue, won't be released this side of Christmas. Do you have any other device you can access it on in the meantime?

It would have been nice if you could have got upgraded hardware when you renewed your contract, but I think it is the kind of thing you needed to push for during the conversation.

It sounds like you upgraded to Halo 3+, so it makes sense that you received new broadband kit.

You can always call back and try and get a Pro Box or perhaps a mod can assist, but as I understand it, you will get access to Discovery+ soon on your current box and we are all going to get offers to move to EE in the New Year, so you will likely be re-contracting again and may get new kit at that point.

What subscription do you have?

If you have TNT Sports, you watch that via the Youview box, 408 onwards are the channels.
The app access is a free extra included with the subscription, you need supported hardware to use, like a smart phone, tablet, Playstation, Xbox etc
Only the pro box, pro box mini and Apple support the app, other boxes are on the list but as of the time of posting this have not been released.

The discovery + app would allow watching TNT Sport in higher quality than the T4000 box offers on the EE TV Channel  408 TNT Sport SD linear channel. So the absence of the discovery+ app on the T4000 does have an impact on subscribers who do not opt to pay for  the HD or HD/4K addon to their EE TV package if they do not have an alternative device that they can watch discovery+ on.

UPDATE: spoke to a decent chap in Lincolnshire this morning...strangely, he immediately said "you need a new box then" and promptly ordered me a Pro box. Weirdly inconsistent responses from BT, but chuffed with the outcome and the good service this morning. 😊
