Thanks for responding. The rejections started when the btinternet users were included in a mailing list (about 64 recipients). However the rejections continue even when the users are emailed individually.

Are you sending from an @btinternet email address? There is a limit on the number of recipients of 49.
Check out Error 554 for further help with what can cause this error.
Have you tried sending an individual email to the address from a different IP address just in case the current IP is on a Blacklist?
I'm sending from a Gmail address. Other Gmail addresses can send to btinternet addresses, only this Gmail address cannot send to single or multiple btinternet addresses.
I've tried sending from different IP addresses.
Perhaps this Gmail address is on a btinternet blacklist. I've sent an email to email@example.com but no reply.
Anything more you can do to help?
Thank you @JohnC2 but as I can’t get a reply from postmaster this thread is worthless unfortunately. Any ideas how to get them to respond / un-blacklist my address?
This is preventing our organisation from communicating with a large number of people who have btinternet addresses.
