Hi I'm having some issues with emails being rejected when i forward my email address to a Gmail address.
Only happens when message originates from a Microsoft account. Have not had issues with other providers.
Anyone had a similar issue or knows of a fix?
Hi,
If i auto forwards my BT email to Gmail most emails are successful but i have discovered that emails originating from a Microsoft account ( Hotmail or Outlook addresses) fail. See failure below.
Remote MTA gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com: network error
- SMTP protocol diagnostic: 550-5.7.25 [65.20.50.128] The IP address sending this message does not have a\r\n550-5.7.25 PTR record setup, or the corresponding forward DNS entry does not\r\n550-5.7.25 match the sending IP. As a policy, Gmail does not accept messages\r\n550-5.7.25 from IPs with missing PTR records. For more information, go to\r\n550-5.7.25 https://support.google.com/a?p=sender-guidelines-ip \r\n550-5.7.25 To learn more about Gmail requirements for bulk senders, visit\r\n550 5.7.25 https://support.google.com/a?p=sende
This is not peculiar to me as a friend of mine is experiencing the same issue with emails from hotmail . Auto forward though works ok in all other scenarios.
Any ideas please.
As the problem only happens with Microsoft email accounts it may well be that Microsoft are the problem however as you are involving three email services, BT, Microsoft and Gmail to get your email the problem could lie with any one of them and may not be easy to track down and fix the problem.
There are similar posts on various other forums which suggest the problem is with Microsoft emails not complying with gmail's anti spam requirements.
I am assuming that gmail is your preferred email service because you are forwarding everything to it.
Why don't you instead of forwarding all the email that arrive in your BT email account to gmail have gmail set to access your BTMail account so that you can deal with the emails from within gmail.
This is easily done in the gmail account settings. It will in effect make gmail behave in a similar way to an email client and cut out the need for any forwarding.
The alternative is to set up an email client such as Thunderbird to access both your BTMail account and your gmail account and use that in order to manage your email.
Yes i have got it set up on Thunderbird and it all works ok.
I raised the issue as someone else raised it with me and i tested it using my email address to confirm if it was global issue or just with their email address.
I agree it does seem to be an issue with MS but would imagine they are using standard protocols for their mail servers as are Google and BT.
Would be nice to get it resolved as if i were to change broadband providers BT tells me i will only be able to access my mail via a web browser and not able to use a client like Outlook or Thunderbird unless i subscribe to premium mail.
Forwarding of email to another provider gets over that issue.

While you are able to forward BTMail at present as a Broadband customer and possibly when you leave BT, this facility can and no doubt will be withdrawn at some point in the future for non BT Broadband customers so I would not rely on it for accessing your BTMail account.
