I recently had to reset my Android phone to factory settings. I reinstalled Outlook which has workerd perfectly in the past but now I am unable to connect with my BT (IMAP) email - "Login error - please check email and password". Needless to say the address and password were correct.
I contacted Outlook (Android) support who responded "We are currently aware of our users unable to add their btinternet.com account to our app and it was discovered that there is an issue on the server end of the account"
Please can anyone throw any light on this problem.
Solved! Go to Solution.
Set the account up manually and append the port number to the server information. I.e mail.btinternet.com:993 for IMAP and mail.btinternet.com:465 for SMTP
Many thanks for the reply.
I'm afraid it did not work - still unable to login.
I have tried BT support who said the problem lies with "Outlook" - "Outlook" blame BT - ne'er the twain shall meet!
I can add my BT accounts to other clients e.g. "BlueMail" which suggests the answer lies with Outlook.
Oh well, never mind, perhaps it will sort out sometime.
I am rapidly coming to the same conclusion
Many thanks again for your suggestion.
Hi, welcome to the forums
Are you with BTYahoo or BTMail?
If the latter then that seems to be the issue trying to reset up the Outlook app. Using port numbers after the server names with manual setup does work ... at least for me.
I'm with BTMail
Still failing to connect with manual setup and port numbers.
I'll keep trying but it's not the end of the world to have to use a different client.
I couldn't get Outlook working on my Android phone either, I went for Edison Mail in the end which is very outlook-ish but unlike Outlook it works
I use the paid for version of Aquamail on Android and find it very good.
There is a free version which limits the number of accounts you can set up but it will at least allow you to try it out to see if it meets your needs.
I finally got Outlook working on my Android phone and it was surprisingly easy.
For btinternet email addresses, goto Add Email Account, tap IMAP when asked what type of account. Do Not enable the advanced settings, just answer the basic questions and the app will download everything in your inbox. I've not tried sending email with it yet and I've no idea if it's secure but it's a start
