Can someone from BT simply explain how we get back to the Classic format which worked perfectly well - we were not even invited or warned before being moved to the new format. My wife is the main BT account holder and she still has the Classic view - why was my account changed at all

You can not go back to the "old" format so don't hold your breath waiting for an explanation from BT how to do that

It is BT's email system and as per their Terms and Conditions section 22, that you agreed to when you started using the system, they can make changes to any service, software etc that they want without the  need to "invite" or "warn" users before changing it.

https://www.bt.com/products/static/terms/feb2017btmail.html

The new format is not being rolled out to all users at the same time. It is being rolled out in batches which will be the reason that your wife's account has not been changed ...... yet.

Re: BT Mail upgrade

It's as good short term fix to the problem changing from 'Rich' text to 'Plain' text to be able to send a reasonably laid out e-mail but.....when changing to 'Plain' text you can no longer formatt the text i.e change font size, underline, bold etc. not really satisfactory unless anyone has any other ideas! It's high time BT got this problem sorted out as it's been going on for weeks.

Re: BT Mail upgrade

If you stopped using webmail and used a mail client (the proper tool for the job) all of these problems would disappear.

Here is one good option Using the Thunderbird e-mail client - IMAP connection - allows folder synchronization between devices.

It will replicate everything on the BT mail server, including all the folders.

Alternatively you could use Claws Mail https://www.claws-mail.org/ or the inbuilt mail app on Windows 10 machines.

Re: BT Mail upgrade

I have similar problems with this new upgrade - yesterday while typing an email the entire screen changed in front of me...now all the Inbox, sent, drafts, trash, spam etc are showing up as well as the boxes to the left and this is taking up another chunk of the available space, plus the adverts to the left of the screen remain despite constantly pressing the arrow to remove adverts. All in all this upgrade has totally spoilt the previous efficiency of the email format and I am seriously considring changing my ISP. BT keep sending

I have had exactly same problem when sending e-mails since this revised BT Mail Upgrade earlier this week. Several phone calls to BT and still experiencing the issue and awaiting a resolution hopefully after Christmas now.

As per Alan20 when composing an e-mail in letter style format with introduction, several paragraphs and a sign off signature etc which is correctly typed, punctuation and spacing (as per this example) the person receiving the email has everything as a continous block of words which looks totally unprofessional and is totally unacceptable. Not the image one wishes to convey.

Why are these upgrades not fully tested before implementing on customers such as ourselves without being asked or having the option to stay on the existing system, which had worked fine and which has a layout we are happy with and used to and which seems much easier, quicker and clearer to use than the recently revised one?

I would be more than happy to revert to the previous version of BT e-mail if it means that I can, with confidence, send my emails in a professionally looking manner as previously.

This issue must be resolved as a matter of urgency please. Hopefully I will receive the booked call back on Thursday to resolve this as I cannot go another week without having a fully functioning e-mail system to use.

At the moment this latest revision is not fit for purpose.

me emails saying the complaint is closed - they just do not seem to grasp what a total mess this new upgrade is. Shame on them. What can we do to make BT rectify all these errors?

Can't agree more - we are still struggling to use the new format and only dip in to this chat when a new observation similar to our original feedback is posted - to register our continued plea to be allowed to revert to the Classic view

Re: BT Mail upgrade

Hooray! This is the solution. I have literally spent hours complaining to BT about this problem and nobody could offer a solution.

Changing the text format from rich to plain does indeed solve it.

Thank you!
