Helping a friend with email; they came back from holiday and couldn't get email, so talked to support and their password was changed. This was about a week ago. Ever since webmail has been fine (confirmed that the new password is correct and working with webmail!); but all IMAP clients just fail to connect (a gradual degradation through the last week apparently).
Clients are Outlook, Ipad and Iphone. Password changed accordingly. Just fails to connect to server (IMAP server mail.btinternet.com); ipad account removed and attempted re-add; failed.
Chat support removed the outlook account and logged off (I assume by accident.) Re-adding it wouldn't work.
Looks like some sort of security on IMAP clients? The password BT used was simple (4 alpha + 4numbers). Too simple for IMAP? Friend doesn't what to change the password again because they're in the middle of some important work. Any ideas? Temp glitch?

There are countless posts of this nature on the forum.
You can do one of 2 things.
Wait and hope access is restored or stop all devices attempting to access mail, change the password again in webmail, wait for an hour for the webmail and IMAP servers to sync and then try one device with the new pasword. If successful add subsequent devices one at a time.
