Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

Just received two more emails purporting to be from BT, one about a refund and the other "View your bill".  Forwarding them to "phishing@bt.com" as instructed on the BT website, results in rejection by BT.  This IS a BT problem.  Either BT should be accepting and processing these forwarded phishing emails, or the website shouldn't be instructing us to forward them to BT.

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

I've just tried several times to forward a scam email - refused every time:

We could not deliver your message as the email provider of the person you were trying to send to has rejected it. If you have tried to send to multiple people, we have listed the people who did not get the message below and the reason.

Your message was rejected by smtpe1.intersmtp.com for the following reason:

5.5.0 550 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: message refused

The following recipients did not receive this message:

     <phishing@bt.com>

Unsurprising really, as the BT email system is still rubbish compared to the BT-Yahoo one.

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

Just tried the abuse@bt.com email address & it too bounced the forwarded fake email.

This is either a failure to address a problem, incompetence or BT really doesn't care if its more credulous customers get scammed...

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

It's not surprising that the mails are from BT addresses, the accounts have fairly certainly been hacked from BT users who didn't recognise the scam and clicked on a link; I had that experience myself. What appears odd to me is that forwarded scam mails purporting to be from BT were rejected whilst a mail I accidentally forwarded from an innocent sender was accepted. I'm not a techie but it would appear that the scammers have somehow managed to trigger this rejection response. It certainly is a BT problem.

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

I completely endorse comments above about this being a BT problem.

BT invite us to report phishing.  If BT's system rejects it, it is their problem.  This is not difficult to understand.

What they then do with this is a consequence of the data collected by our reporting.  If the collection is flawed i.e. not all our phishing reports are being collected, then the data on which any action by BT can be decided is, by definition, flawed and/or incomplete.

I had a phishing email purporting to come from BT billing this morning.   It was rejected by phishing@bt.com but accepted by the gov.uk site.

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

I'm even more intrigued now as I have discovered that when I forward a phishing e-mail to phishing@bt.com  from my NON-BT account it is not rejected !!

Figure that out.

Someone may have got his/her act together. A "phishing @bt.com" forward this morning was accepted OK.

Don't hold your breath! It randomly accepts some and rejects others.

Meanwhile, the spam filter has started randomly placing emails from people & companies I've dealt with for years in the spam folder... (yes, I'm now marking them as safe senders as this happens).

Re: BT "phishing@bt.com" rejecting forwarded phishing e-mails MODS ATTENTION, PLEASE!!

I have had the same problem today with reporting to both phishing@bt.com and abuse@bt.com receipt of a phishing email purporting to be from BT, headed "Subject: Your bill is ready". The responses have been:

"Your message was rejected by smtpb1.bt.com for the following reason:

5.5.0 550 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: message refused

The following recipients did not receive this message:

     <phishing@bt.com>"

and:

"Your message was rejected by smtpe1.intersmtp.com for the following reason:

5.5.0 550 5.7.1 Requested action not taken: message refused

The following recipients did not receive this message:

     <abuse@bt.com>"

I have deleted the original though a copy remains attached to my rejected message to BT.

This was one of a number of fake BT emails I have received and reported in the past, apparently successfully. They were all in my main folder, not my spam folder.

Why is BT not protecting BT Mail users from fake BT communications. Users with "btinternet" addresses are obvious prey. The emails contain details about BT, its registered address, same coloured banners etc. Why are they not identified as spam?
