Backing up email

Hi All,

I have tried searching this but I couldn't find a definitive answer but perhaps I didnt look hard enough.

We would like to move away from BT email service and use a personal domain. But obviously can only access outlook online which offers no way to export and download all emails.

If we upgrade to a business account with the apps available does this mean we can manage the email from the Outlook app (as we could a year or two back) which would allow us then to create a PST export/backup of all emails?

If this is not possible then how do we get a backup of all emails as they are required to be kept and with outlook online version there's no way to do this.

Thanks

Re: Backing up email

If all your emails are presently on the BTMail servers, ie when you check using a web browser they are all there, then you could download and install an email client such as Thunderbird and set it up as POP3. You could then download your emails to that. It should be noted POP3 will only down load the Inbox and not any other folders.

Once downloaded you would have a PST folder on your device which you could then use to back up your emails and transfer to another email account.

The other option is to set up your domain prior to leaving BT and set up an email client such as Thunderbird as IMAP which will show all your folder and emails,  and add your Domains email address and your BT email address to it.

Then you can simply drag and drop the emails from your BTMail account into your Domain's email account.

It should be noted that when you leave BT your email account is downgraded to BTMail Basic which is free and can only be used with a web browser.

Re: Backing up email

I was under the impression imap and pop are no longer in use. This forced us to outlook webmail which is the issue.

Re: Backing up email

That only applies to BT Business customers, not residential.

If you are a business, then you are posting on the wrong forum.

Re: Backing up email

I'm totally confused, you ask if changing to a business account will help and then say you have a business account rather than residential.

Do you have an @btinternet.com address or an @btconnect.com address?
