Can't connect BT Mail to Older iPads ( iOS 9.x max)

Go to solution

Hello

I think BT have stopped supporting devices with Apple iOS 9.x, or visa versa, or a bit of both.

I've had the same iPad for years and suddently it would not send from my BT Mail account. I fiddled using BT forum threads and couldn't get it to work and so I tried a later ipad - an ipad 4 going above iOS 9.x. Bingo! No problem connecting there. The problem is it's not my ipad and I can't afford another.

I got hold of two more older ipads going to iOS 9.x max and I couldn't connect my BT Mail account at all. The method I used was Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calendars - Add Account - other (you know, the usual thing).

This always worked automatically until just very recently. What's up BT ? Don't you like old ipads now?

It will have nothing to do with the age of the iPad, mail servers are completely agnostic to whatever device is connecting as long as the correct settings and credentials are used.

The settings on the iPad hadn't been changed on my iPad when it stopped sending. Any iPad I have used that is not an iPad mini 4 can't connect. So what has been changed?

I don't enter any settings, but just let the auto process take over to connect my account, as I have done  many times before and as described above. So I provide name, email account, password, description when I'm prompted for these details, after I choose to add an email account.

The iPad mini 4 does it slightly differently and I can connect my email account automatically.

The only differences I can think of since the problem began are:

1. I've started to connect using an android device in addition to iPad mini.

2. The mailbox is larger.

You need to enter the settings manually, see message 2 of this thread for details.

I've been through this. The procedure doesn't work. For instance you can't see the setting for IMAP at the top of the screen. There is no IMAP to veiw. Also you are asked to check SSL. SSL is also not in view.

The only progress so far is I've got another older ipad to connect but just like my ipad I cannot sent mail. So the issue now is I cannot send. It gets stuck in the Outbox.

If you can access mail using an Android device and webmail, it isn't a BT problem, its an Apple problem.

The SMTP (outgoing) password is set in a different location to the POP/IMAP (incoming) password on iPads as far as I'm aware. You need to set the password in both locations.

Hi.

When you login to webmail, does it show s Yahoo image? If so then you're with BTYahoo, otherwise it's BTMail.

Certainly until recently, some devices used the wrong settings when setting up mail - especially for BTMail accounts. The "system" chose Yahoo settings, rather than the correct BTinternet settings.

When you provide the account setup with name/email address etc - does the system simply use those settings and not suggest an account type (either before or after)? E.g. yahoo, AOL, hotmail etc ...

How long has this actually been happening for?

Is there a possibility that there are stuck emails in the Outbox causing others to fail?

Can you supply some screen grabs of the setting up progress, naturally blanking out any personal details.
