Re: Can't connect BT Mail to Older iPads ( iOS 9.x max)

If you can access mail using an Android device and webmail, it isn't a BT problem, its an Apple problem.

The SMTP (outgoing) password is set in a different location to the POP/IMAP (incoming) password on iPads as far as I'm aware. You need to set the password in both locations.

Bypassing @Andy_N comments for the moment. For the iPad, do the following.

You have go into the outgoing settings> Advanced. Make sure that the password is entered......Tap on the “password” tab.

If it’s any encouragement, it works on my ancient iPod touch, 2010 model.

Re: Can't connect BT Mail to Older iPads ( iOS 9.x max)

Hi Andy_N, I open my email from the btinternet home page and the url uses mail.yahoo.com in the address. The logo is a BT/Yahoo logo.

Would accidently signing in on the Yahoo signing in page change my settings so that I cannot use the BT settings now? This has been happening about the same time (a few weeks back). I've been with btinternet mail since it started. Never wanted to join Yahoo.

If I delete the stuck mail in the Outbox the problem remains the same. Can't send.

Sometimes I get Cannot Send Mail. The username or password for (my address) is incorrect. Well I've typed it in for Outgoing and Incoming a few times now.

I put some settings on the email in reply to licquorice.

IMAP Path Prefix / - nothing here

Server Port 993

S/MNE - off

I'll answer my own question having checked on the web.

I am now on Yahoo but I don't know how long for.

BUT I have always managed to get my email by clicking 'other' and not 'Yahoo' on the old ipad mini.

Will they move me onto BT?

You have always been on Yahoo, there was a migration to BT Mail but that stopped about 3 years ago. You should always use 'other' regardless of which system you are on.

You have not been moved to Yahoo, you have always been on BTYahoo email.

You will not be moved onto BTMail. The migration of email accounts from BTYahoo to BTMail stopped over four years ago and there are no plans to restart it.

If the BT server settings are not working you could try the Yahoo ones as per this link

@Tattywrote:

BT utilised Yahoo for email from 2003, then in March 2014 BT started migrating accounts to BTMail. However this was permanently stopped in September 2014, leaving about ½ with Yahoo and ½ with BTMail (that's only a guess, no-one knows or has told us. I expect it's more on BTMail since all new email accounts will go on BTMail).

When you enter the email address, I assume you're using the full email address including @btinternet.com.

You could alter that and try without to start with, then try with @btopenworld.com.

If you are using the Yahoo servers, make sure the full email address is used.

Please also doubly check you're got the correct spelling in the email address and password, as well as the server name. It is quite easy to miss out a number or other character in the email address. Sorry to infer anything, but people have sometimes done this.
