Hi,
I can't set up my @btinternet.com email account in Outlook 365 on a new laptop. I am using the below IMAP settings as per the BT website.
I have set up an outlook email account and then trying to add another account through this option.
And then Connect
And then I just keep getting pop ups asking me to enter my username and password for the mail.btinternet.com mail server. My bt email address and password are correct. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks
The first question is are you currently a BT Broadband customer or paying for Premium Mail? If neither, you won't be able to use a mail client, only webmail.
Outlook 365 does seem to be problematic with BT email for some reason.
Just to verify where the problem lies, can you try downloading and installing Thunderbird temporarily to see if that works ok.
Hi,
Thanks for the swift reply. I am a broadband customer. I get the following message from thunderbird.
You might want to edit that screenshot to remove your email address.
Not guaranteed this will work , but worth a try as it sometimes does work.
Stop all apps/clients to prevent them trying to connect. Change your password in webmail and then wait at least an hour (the important bit) to give the servers chance to sync passwords. Then try configuring Thunderbird again with the new password. If successful, try configuring Outlook 365 with the new password.
Daft question but here goes, are you sure you set up an smtp account? Try port 995 instead of 993.
Note that you cannot change a POP3 account to SMTP just by changing the port number, is that what you did? try port 995 instead of 993
@Les-Gibson You are totally confusing SMTP with IMAP.
SMTP is the outgoing protocol
