Its the SMPT server thats the problem, mail can be received fine, its just not authenticating correctly.

tried to sign-in and use user name and password that i use to log into pc but keep getting setup could not finish

cannot safely connect to server

certificate hostname not useable for server: mail.btinternet.com

 

do i need to select some other username/password

 

obviously doing something stupid here?

 

can you help further?

that is my settings for sending mail and it works

I am not sure, as I use IMAP, but I looked at the port numbers set up on my email program (Thunderbird) if it used POP3.

 

Is there any reason why you cannot use IMAP, as I know the settings for that, as its on my phone. Perhaps imjolly is using POP3?

Try his SMTP settings.

sign required

username   xxxxxx@btinternet,com

password  as per bt mail sign in

i followed this and i can now send and receive and everything

you got me on the right track

 

and now im off and running

 

simply had to set up user name and password in line with my pc bt yahoo account

 

could not have discovered without your help

 

thanks again

 

suprised the shop assistants ("experts") could not help me fathom this in the end simple setting out
