Email Service Upgrade

My email service has just been "upgraded".  I have updated all settings on my iOS devices as per instructions received but now my email only connects to the bt email server if I am connected to a mobile/4G network.  If I am connected to a wifi network, I get an error message saying the mail server is not responding & to verify I have entered the correct account settings.  As soon as I switch back to 4G, it works fine.  This means I can only use my email on my laptop & iPad if hot-spotted through my mobile!!

Any ideas?

***UPDATE*** seems to work on wifi if connected through a VPN, but will not connect if VPN switched off????
