I updated my password for my btinternet accounton all devices.
webmail is, unsurprisingly, perfect.
On my 2 Apple devices, all the historical folders have vanished.
How can I recover them, please?
If I search in the “Inbox” field the system displays emails which would have been in the folders - but the folders themselves are absent.
Check that your email account settings on your Apple devices are set up as IMAP accounts and not POP3 accounts.
IMAP replicates and synchronises what is showing on webmail where as POP3 does not.
Thank you for replying , gg30340.
Here’s where I show my true ignorance.
i don’t know how to amend the settings you quote. If I click on to the email account details on the Apple device, it shows
“POP account details”
but in a field that isn’t active. So - the system seems to be set as POP - but how do I change this.
I wouldbe grateful for further help. As simple as possible, please - you will not insult my intelligence.
You can not change it on the fly. You would need to delete your email account from your device and then set it up again but this time set it up as an IMAP account.
Before doing that you should check that all your emails in all your folders and Inbox are still present on the BT servers by logging onto your email account on webmail (using a web browser). If they are just delete the account, restart the device then set up the account again.
You may find that when you try to set up the email account again that you are not given the option to set it up as an IMAP account. If that happens if you enter a wrong password after entering your email address you will then be given the option. Select IMAP ad follow the prompts.
If you are asked to enter any settings the ones you need are in this link.
