Since the BT update of emails on Thursday I have not received any emails in Outlook Outlook is not synchronizing with webmail. I followed BT instructions earlier on today and changed account settings for the server as instructed and all folders in Outlook disappeared and I constantly was asked for password. Have changed it back to previous settings and it has calmed down, but still no incoming emails.

What settings are you using? You should be using server as mail.btinternet.com with IMAP port 993 and SSL, SMTP port 465 and SSL with server requires authentication ticked.
Thanks tried that, same response as before -continual request for password, which I have double checked.

This can sometimes work. Close Outlook, change your password in webmail, wait at least an hour for the password to sync across servers and then try again with the new password in Outlook. I'm not entirely sure what the latest situation is with special characters in the password, but best to stick to alpha-numeric to be on the safe side.
Edit: I assume you are a BT Broadband customer or paying for Premium mail otherwise you will no longer be able to use Outlook.
Yes BT Broadband customer, account in husbands name- is that a problem?
No, just that if you were no longer a customer you would have been downgraded to basic mail.
