In the last few days BT email has started putting some messages into Spam folder. Because I use Outlook with a POP3 account, i get no indication that this has occurred. Can I tell BT email to stop doing this and put them all in my inbox?

No you can't tell BT to stop doing it. What you can do is add the email addresses to your safe senders list and if they end up in your spam folder mark them as not spam. Eventually the spam filters should learn they are not spam.
