So I get an email in Outlook. I open it. I think, ok I'll deal with that later.
I go to find the same email on my iPhone and it's not there!!
The gist of my problem is, if I receive an email on my iPhone then subsequently view it in Outlook, it vanishes from my Iphone!
I'm sure I'm not the only person that views emails on one device but deals with them on another?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Are you using POP3 or IMAP? If POP3, check that you have ticked 'leave a copy of the message on the server' on both devices.
Never use webmail. Emails arrive fine in Outlook and I use that as I'm used to it.
Emails arrive on the Iphone but as soon as I view them in Outlook they vanish.
Using POP in Outlook by the way as there doesn't seem to be much choice.
I meant could you check in webmail when they disappear to help with diagnosis. Are you sure you have ticked the box to leave a copy of the message on the server in Outlook. If you wish to use IMAP in Outlook, you first have to delete the account and then re-create it as IMAP. You can't change from POP3 to IMAP on the fly.
Have now checked in webmail.
Sent an email, received on phone. Downloaded it to Outlook and it disappeared from the phone as described.
It seems to be in the webmail inbox but I can't open it. I just get a message saying 'Error Reading Email'.
I can confirm that the 'Leave a Copy on the Server' box is ticked.
If you refresh webmail, or log out and back in again, does the mail still remain?
If I refresh it opens fine in web mail.
It seems I have to set up the account again as an IMAP account. Is that right?
Yes, if you prefer IMAP. Backup your mails first though.
The original problem seems very strange, Outlook is obviously leaving a copy of the message on the server but the phone is not recognising it. Maybe the phone only retrieves unread messages. You could try marking the message as unread in webmail and see if it appears on your phone as an experiment.
