How do I get a (first) btinternet email address?

I have a bt community account (obvious, I am posting to it).

I have a MyBT account which is linked to my "BT broadband package" account. (Have had for years)

How do I get a first btinternet email address that I can access - ideally both from a browser or from Thunderbird.

All the help information tells me how to add a second address. or says click "Create new email address" but there is no such link.

You might be out of luck as BT were planning to withdraw email for new users. Just checked my account & I don't have the email tab either.

Having said that I really wouldn't want one anyway, given how problematic the service is.

The facility to have/create a BTMail email account was stopped for new customers from that 30th June 2022 and no doubt it will also be withdrawn from existing customers at some point in the future albeit they may be able to keep their existing email addresses for a while.

I still have the ability to create a new email address so it may be that there is a problem with your MyBT products or it could be that if you did not have any email accounts BT will now not allow you to create any.

I have asked the moderators to comment.

I'm guessing the latter as I've never taken up BT email.

I have not yet received an update from the moderators but they have assured me that they are contacting the email team to ascertain what the facts are.

The moderators have confirmed that new customers to BT Broadband are still offered the ability to set up and use the BTMail service.
