For Mac users I think I have a workaround.
A combination of the following seems to have worked for me.
4. Restart "Mail". On some of my yahoo email accounts this worked instantaneously for me. On others it took around 5 minutes for the account to start working again. 12 hours in and the problem seems to be gone.
Good Luck to all.
I'm suffering with similar problems on my MAC.
Tried your suggestion, but unfortunately, it didn't work.
Didn't realise that this was such a common problem
Surely someone has a solution?
Using my non BT Yahoo account through Mail on my mac and I keep getting port 993 time outs.
Have followed the suggestions here but to no avail.
If I remove my ethernet cable from my Infinity connection and plug it in to my Virgin Media connection I get no problems what so ever.
Any ideas? Really frustrating and disappointing.
After trying to have a useless "e" conversation with the helpline, I finally manged to speak with the Tech Dept in BT, who I found very helpful.
They took control of my IMAC and changed the e-mail settings as follows:-
Accont Type -
Sorry for split mesaage
Account Type - Yahoo IMAP
Description - btinternet.com
E-mail address - address including @btinternet.com
Full name - your own name
Incoming mail - IMAP.mail.yahoo.com
Password - your BT password
Only this server and TLS boxes - leave unchecked
Outgoing mail - BT
Enable this account/include when auto checking for new mesaages boxes - check
IMAP Path Prefix - leave blank
Port - 995
SSL box - check
Authentication - your BT password
This has been succesful over the past 5 days, so it looks as if it is a permanent solution.
It's worked for me, hope it works for you
I found the "apple." solution worked for me too. It's so easy, why doesn't BT Yahoo tell us instead of saying it is a problem with MacMail?
