Is there a way to set the maximum number of emails to retain in your Inbox? Bad management I know, but my wife has thousands and mine self delete after about 300.
Hi @Cameltrain, welcome to the forum and thanks for your post.
If you're using webmail there is no option for this. This maybe a configurable parameter for email clients. If you're using a mobile app there may be an option on the mail app to set this.
Cheers
John
As you have said it is bad email management to leave all your emails in the Inbox plus it is a risky strategy.
There are numerous posts on the forum where for some inexplicable reason the poster's email Inbox has been completely emptied and the emails deleted from the BT email servers. Once that happens the email can not be recovered.
Not a great solution but you could consider setting up a new folders in your "My Folder" section. After doing that you can then set up a Rules to have all your incoming emails sent to the various folders that you have set up.
If you do not want to use Rules you should at least set up various folders and when you have checked your emails just drag the email into the appropriate folder or on a weekly basis mark all the emails you want moved to a folder and use the "More" button to batch move them to the appropriate folder..
Many thanks for your reply.
I do file incoming emails by month in separate folders but I sometimes might forget for a month or two and bybthat time I’ve had so many the older ones have disappeared.
My wife’s Inbox holds far more than mine, thousands rather than hundreds, and as we both have the same BT account I don’t see why.
The emails in your Inbox should not disappear after 30 days. If that is happening there would appear to be something wrong.
Do you access your email only via webmail using a web browser or is it accessed with an email client/app such as on a mobile device?
If you do use and email client/app you should check in the email client/app settings to see if it has been set to delete emails from the server after x amount of days.
Unfortunately I’m semi illiterate re techno speak. I access my email via the BT web page which I access via Google. Until recently I had access to Outlook which kept all my emails but I recently had to update my hard drive and the new Outlook is synced to BT and shows the same data. My wife accesses in the same way via the phone.
It may be that Outlook, which is an email client, has been set to delete the emails from the server after x days and because it is synced with BTMail the emails in your Inbox are deleted at the same time.
You should go into the settings in Outlook and check the settings. I don't use Outlook but have found a guide that may assist you and in particular the part that I have highlighted which you should ensure is not active.
Ok. Many thanks. I’ll check that out.
