Iphone btconnect email not working following POP2 removal

Go to solution

Following the removal of POP2 connectivity today and despite BT assurances that the iphone app wouldn't be affected we've found our btconnect.com accounts are not recognised and we cannot send or receive emails via our iphones mail app.  We can logon and access our email accounts on the PC 365 web site so we know our information is valid. I've tried recreating the accounts on the iphone from scratch following the recommended BT POP and SMTP settings below. (There don't seem to be IMAP settings option). I've even reset our passwords to see if that would work but without success.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

The iphone mail settings I'm using are:

Here’s what you need to do to set up a new email account on your iPhone or iPad. This will let you send and receive emails from your BT Business account using Microsoft Office 365.

Your existing email account will be left unaltered and still on your device.

Some of the details of these steps may vary slightly due to device or software variations.

Setting up POP email on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. On the home screen tap Settings.
  2. Scroll down to Mail.
  3. Select Account.
  4. Select Add Account.
  5. From the options, choose Other.
  6. Select Add Mail Account.
  7. Put your name in the Name field (this is what people will see when they receive your email).
  8. Enter your BT Business username in the Email field (firstname.lastname@btconnect.com or you@yourcompany.com if you’ve registered a custom domain).
  9. Enter your BT Business password in the Password field.
  10. In the Description field enter the name you’ll use to identify the account.
  11. Tap Next. If you get an error message at this point, tap OK.
  12. Make sure that POP is selected at the top of the screen.
  13. In the Incoming Mail Server section, change the Host Name to outlook.office365.com.
  14. Now enter 995 in the Server port and set SSL to on.
  15. In the Outgoing Mail Server section and change Host Name to smtp.office365.com.
  16. Now enter 587 in the Server port and set SSL to on.
  17. Set Outgoing Mail Authentication to password and enter your email address and password.
  18. Tap Save.
  19. Your settings will now be verified, and you'll see your Account This may not happen automatically, so simply tap btconnect account to access your email.

We've based these steps on the latest version of iOS. Because there are so many devices and software versions, some details may vary. If you see something different, just follow the principles, check the user guide for your device, and try using these server settings instead:

  • Incoming Mail Server: outlook.office365.com.
  • Incoming Mail Server: Server Port 995.
  • Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.office365.com.
  • Outgoing Mail Server: Server Port 587.
  • Username: your full email address.
  • Use SSL: set to ON for both incoming and outgoing mail server.
