More email signin problems

I know a lot of users on Android find BT Email signin is **** and recommend using another app, but my attempt to create a BT account / signin via Bluemail (which I have  used for years) fails, because BT is sending the confirmation code via Comcast! Yes Comcast, really? I have NEVER EVER had a Comcast Email  account or anything else. How can I stop this happening and create the account I need? Why does BT blunder endlessly like this  with its Email service? If the reason is that users put up with it, there is an inevitable answer.

How are you setting up your new email account?

Have you followed the process as per this link

How do I create and activate a new BT Email address? | BT Help

You should do that and after checking that you can access and use the new email account using a web browser then you can add the email account to your email client/app.

Hi @clayto I'm sorry to see you're having trouble with your email. Are you trying to set up an existing BT email on the Bluemail app? If so you need to use these settings 

I'm not sure what you mean by the confirmation code, are you trying to reset your BT email password? If so confirmation codes are only ever sent to contact emails or mobile numbers that were provided to us previously.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to outline my experience step by step in the hope of avoiding confusion to anyone.

1. I am NOT trying to set up a new account

2. I have had the same BT account for around 30 years (despite all the problems, possibly associated with the Yahoo association?)  ---  and this account is OK on my PC

3. Since I had my Android phone for two years I have had the BT Mail icon (and Yahoo) displayed on it, but have never been able to get access to BT Mail on my phone. I have had a variety of responses such as token has expired, identity not recognised ,etc. I gave up trying.

4. I decided to have another go, after getting my new Halo account and reading advice on this Forum to use another email client such as Bluemail (familiar to me) but I could not get Bluemail to work (it is fine on my PC and Tablet)

5. I tried BT Mail yet again, just now----- it says "Sorry, we didn't recognise either your username or password. Please try again". It had said that before, so I renewed my password successfully but with the same result

6. All I want is to be able to use my long established BT email service, either with the BT email client or another, on my Android phone

Have you tried using the Android email app that came with your phone.

To set it up is more or less the same as for all other email apps.

Open the app and use the set up manually option. You should do that regardless of which email client/app that you decide to use.

When using the Androis email client:-

Enter your Email address

Enter your Password

Select the Manual Set up

Select POP3 or IMAP

The following is for IMAP but you can select POP3 if that is what you want. 

Incoming servers:

Mail.btinternet.com

Security Type SSL

Port 993

Outgoing server:

Mail.btinternet.com

Security SSL

Port 465

Authentication required. Yes

Username xxxxx@btinternet.com

Password xxxxxxx

The following link gives the server settings etc for POP3 and IMAP.

If you have changed your password you should restart your phone before trying to set up the email app with the email account.

If the above does not work, some forum users have found the following works for them.

IMAP settings

Incoming Mail Server: imap.btinternet.com

Port: 993

Security: SSL/TLS

Username: your email address

Password: your email password

Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com

Port: 465 

Security:  SSL/TLS

Authentication: PLAIN

Username: your email address 

Password: your email password

I don't recall an email client being on my Android phone when I had it. What is its name etc? It could be any one of a score of apps, some just named Mail or Email.

You are now saying in message 6 "I don't recall an email client being on my Android phone when I had it...."

Are you now saying you don't have an Android phone?

In any event the Android email app is called "Email".
