Im trying to recover a secondary bt email account password. However the security question asks for Mothers maiden name. I know that I used something else rather than the real name but when I check my security questions through my account, Mothers maiden does not show as a question.
How do I reset this or get the reset form to ask me a security question that I know the answer to?

Per chance you have not used the same security answers on your email accounts, it is the main account holders security answers that are needed to change the password.
If you are the broadband account holder you should call BT Customer Services 0800.800.150. Have your broadband account number handy. They should be able to reset your password but it may require that they send you a PIN/Password to your registered address that will allow you to access the email account and thereafter change the security settings and password.
