Hi,
Interesting you say 2010 works. I had this on my old laptop which I originally linked my BT mail to. When I had to renew my subscription I did 365 family as more useful.
Can you tell me what thunderbird is?
Thank you.

It's just a free mail client, similar to Outlook. It will prove whether the problem lies with BT IMAP/SMTP servers or Outlook 365
Thank you. I will try that tomorrow so then I know for sure.
If it is 365 it sounds like I may have to consider not using my BT email, which is a shame as my work one. It will confirm there would be now point me me having a different laptop as same problem will arise. Maybe I can talk to Microsoft to see if I can somehow change my subscription to 2010. Thanks for your help.

Just to let you know, I too installed Thunderbird upon seeing a recommendation by @licquorice in 2020. It has everything one needs for sending and receiving emails and never gives a problem.
The change to Windows 11 was harmless and Thunderbird continues as before.
Thank you for that. I may just need to change my way of working and use Thunderbird instead.
I just wanted to let you know I spoke to Microsoft as Thunderbird worked so I thought about what we discussed, and I wanted to see if I could get a different version of outlook.
I got put through to Microsoft 365 expert. We changed my BT password, which I had already done before and then suddenly it now all works on 365. Apparently changing your BT password regularly resolves the issue if it has been failing to link.
