No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

I have spent almost two days trying resolve issues with my email with BT. It started on Monday afternoon when I suddenly stopped receiving or being able to send emails from my laptop (host Outlook) OR my i-phone (set up as suzicb@btopenworld.com

After prolonged "chat support" I was given a phone number to ring. I spoke to BT support staff twice. On both occasions they blamed Outlook. At first I believed them and brough in  a Microsoft engineer on the problem for the past seven hours. He says the problem lies with BT and the changes they have made to the ID process which have upset the ( previously working for two years) settings to my laptop and i-phone. This evening I have spoken with another BT manager who is referring my case to the email specialists in Colcotta.

By being forced to name one of my two email accounts for the new BT ID process, ie my btinternet email address, it appears to have fractured the link to my btopenworld address, which is the address setting used by YAHOO. Even though I indicated that I wanted to use the same password for both addresses ie the btinternet.com address and the btopenworld.com address (ie the alias) this has not happened. In fact I've had messages telling me I need to verify my btinternet account by clicking on a non-existent verification message and when I ask for the message to be re-sent, it tells me to wait a few minutes and try again. In other words, the BT link was faulty. I've tried about a hundred times. Then I finally got a link from the community forum and that worked in terms of verifying my btinternet address, but it still doesn't allow me to change my settings which remain on Yahoo in the name of my btopenworld address.

In the meantime, BT refuses to talk to my engineer who has gone home in disgust. Why is it so impossible to gain access to both my BT email accounts? Why are they not synchronised to accept the same password, when that information has already been solicited? It's no use for BT support staff to blame Outlook or other hosting packages.  This is just passing the buck. They need to repair the broken links on the BT email and other parts of the main website so that it is clear to customers how to resolve the problems of synchronicity with their secondary mail hosts such as Outlook that BT are responsible for causing by changing their own settings. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be grateful as I'll probably be up half the night waiting for a phone call.

I can't receive my BT internet verification email in order to re-establish my email

I am gnashing my teeth with rage. After many fruitless chats with BT I still can't get my  BT/YAHOO mail to come to my Outlook on my laptop or i-phone.  I had no problem until three days ago. It is NOT an Outlook issue - it is caused by BT changing their settings which means that Outlook can't synchronise as previously (error Ox800 CCCOE). . Under Accounts on Yahoo, it tells me to verify my BT internet Account via a confirmation email from BT Yahoo Member services. I tried clicking the link. Nothing. I tried clicking "resending it." Nothing. Then a pop up message "Failed to send verification email. Please try again in a few minutes." Guess how many times I tried.

I hate BT.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Why are you trying to verify an account? There is no need to do this.

Please don't change any settings or password, this issue can last a few hours to a few days. BT haven't changed any settings.

What happens when you login via webmail :-

https://signin1.bt.com/login/emailloginform

If your account is BTYahoo, then try :-

https://mail.yahoo.com

that has been shown to kickstart app/client access - though of late there's not really been confirmation this is still the case.

Re: No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

Hi.

Please edit your post to remove your email address, these are public forums.

Did you read the replies to your other posts?

Please don't confuse login to BTID with the email address, they are completely different - even though it can be sync'd if the BTID is the same as the email address.

The thing is, don't use BTID - don't change anything, don't attempt to change password etc.

The problem with client/app access (e.g. Outlook/iPhone) can sometimes fail - with webmail still working. In these cases it can last a few hours to  few days.

Does webmail work :-

https://signin1.bt.com/login/emailloginform

and if the account is BTYahoo, does :-

https://mail.yahoo.com

work?

Please don't confuse the issue with regard btinternet and btopenworld, or verification etc - go back to basics and do the webmail route above initially.

Also - the email addresses ending in btinternet and btopenworld, if the bit before the @ is the same - then they are the same email address and will have the same password. Again, don't confuse BTID access to BT.COM being the same as email address access.

Re: No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

Many thanks for your advice but I've already made a BT ID, because BT told me I had to. Webmail BT Yahoo has never stopped working, what has stopped working is my email hosting on laptop and i phone. Because BT gives the option of one's BTID being the same as one's email address, they are MAKING IT THE SAME ACCESS point. I really appreciate you suggestion but I can't DO much on the webmail route at the moment because the password for BT email is not recognised by Yahoo email, despite the fact that I requested one password for both, so I cannot adjust my settings etc etc. By winding down btopenworld settings behind the scenes, BT are letting down their original email clients.

Re: I can't receive my BT internet verification email in order to re-establish my email

Thanks, I've already replied via my later email. BT sent me a link to the verification as the one on their website was faulty. I was able to verify my email account for the ......@btinternet address and got a reply. However when I went back to check account settings this evening, they are once again requesting verification for the same email address so I have no idea what is going on.

Ok, so webmail works fine - the problem is access via iPhone or laptop client Outlook. Try :-

https://mail.yahoo.com

which can kickstart app/client access.

What do you mean BT are winding down BTopenworld settings? They aren't.

Please can we go back to basics - what do you mean by the BT email password  not recognised by Yahoo? How did you request a password for "both"? Again - are you referring to the login to bt.com via MyBT?

But first things first, can you login via webmail fine using your normal email address and password?

Re: No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

I suspect the OP was changing her BTID from btopenworld to btinternet as that would trigger a verification email.

Following on from that, whilst btopenworld and btinternet are interchangeable as far as email is concerned, they are not as far as BTID is concerned as in theory the BTID is just a text string.

Now the interesting bit. If the BTID is in the form of @btinternet.com then changing the BTID password also changes the email password and vice versa. If, however, the BTID is in the form @btopenworld.com the passwords can be changed separately as they ought to be!!

You couldn't make it up.

Re: No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

Dear Liquorice/Respected Guru

I've been away all week on family funeral matters in Cornwall so have had little internet access. My engineer gave up and went on holiday to recover. He says trying to deal with BT on my behalf has made him reconsider his career choices, he is threatening to give up IT altogether.

You are correct that I changed my BT ID from openworld to internet, but I only received this prompt AFTER my emails stopped coming to my Outlook on my laptop and also to my i-phone. This service issue happened with NO ACTION on my part. But yes, I then changed my BT ID and although I CAN access my emails by going to BT My Mail online, I still have no way of changing the Yahoo settings because as you rightly say, the system keeps asking my for my Yahoo password which I ticked should be the same as my BTinternet password, but YAHOO just goes in a loop whenever I try to type it in so I can't change any settings.

I'm beginning to feel very depressed and my engineer is refusing to take my calls as he says it is BT's fault. In the meantime he has tried to reset my Outlook and lost three years worth of work filed of Outlook folders from my Outlook profile.

Do you have a solution? I have done the verification email thing. Should I try to reinstate my BTID to the openworld address and have a new password? Would that work for Yahoo also? I'm concerned about doing this because numerous support calls to BT staff has had them admit that they are phasing Openworld out anyway.

Re: No synchronisation between btinternet, btopenworld and Yahoo settings

I think for the time being until BT get a grip on what is happening, I would leave things as they are as at least you have webmail access currently. There are a number of threads running at the moment with similar problems.

I have to say I'm not very impressed with your IT guy if he managed to lose your work. Unless he deleted your .PST file they will still be on your machine. Hopefully you take regular backups of your machine, if so the .PST file will be backed up also.
