I have an old @btinternet.com address which is tied to an old BT account (both my old one and new account show up in "My BT") - I wanted to merge the two accounts under my current BT email, but I can't get any further than the "text/email to confirm it is really you" as soon as I enter the code the page just throws up an error that "BT.com doesn't understand the submitted instruction". I can't log into the old account email page as it throws up the "wait 20 mins before logging in again" message, even though I haven't actually logged in at all . The password is correct I can see it in the main email accounts page of the old account, which I can access.
Any help or suggestions welcome !
How long ago was it that you last accessed and used the "old" email account?
If it was over 150 days ago the email account will have been deleted and can not be recovered.

You may be able to re-use the email address if you can still see the account in your MyBT > Your Products > Mail, Manage.

It still active as the forwarding is working as before and the sub accounts are all fine, I have checked it within the last 150 days - it just won't let me merge it with my new account. the merge fails at the point of authorisation check and the webpage just throws up an error.
