In the last two weeks or so when I click to read an email a tick appears in the box next to the email. The email is then opened outside of that email into a Blank page where I can read the email. It is very annoying. How can I put this right please or do I ring up BT Helpline?

Just single click on the email heading in your list to open it to read it. Double clicking will open it in a new page.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, but I have just tried it with a single click and it doesn't budge. It only opens with a double click.
That is not the only thing that has changed recently. I cannot see all of my emails. I can only see two days of emails. Does it mean that I will have to take my Laptop to be serviced? I did that about 6 months ago.

You do not need to take your laptop for service.
Try changing the "View" by clicking on "View" at the right hand side and select "None".
What web browser are you using?
As regards only seeing two days of emails. Make sure that the "Conversation" View is not active. To do that log onto your BTMail account and click on "View" in the menu bar at the right hand side. Scroll down and Single click "conversation view" to toggle it on or off.
When you toggle it on or off you will see the name "Conversation View" change colour from grey to blue when it is turned on.
