Outlook login problem

Hello

I can login to my webmail OK but cannot login with Outlook. I have also tried Thunderbird and Windows Mail.

I am using Windows 10 if that's any help.

Seems to not like my password yet how come I can log in to webmail OK.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Re: Outlook login problem

Has the problem just started or have you never been able to access your mail via a client?

Webmail and clients access different servers which is why webmail works.

This is the first time trying to login with Outlook.

I am using the settings as per this page - https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage-email-account/manual-settings/what-are-the-settings-for-outgoin...

Re: Outlook login problem

Are you either a BT Broadband customer or paying for Premium Mail? If neither, you will be on the Basic Email service which is only accessible via webmail.

Re: Outlook login problem

Ok, can't guarantee this will work but it sometimes does when the password doesn't get synced across servers.

Stop any client from attempting to access mail, log in to webmail and change the password. Wait at least an hour to give the servers chance to sync and then try again with Outlook with the new password.

Re: Outlook login problem

I haven't had a chance to try the above password suggestion yet as I have been working remotely.

I was wondering though whether there might be some security feature built in which prevents login by a third party client such as Outlook unless connected to the BT hub?

Anybody know if this might be the case?

Re: Outlook login problem

Definitely not the problem, you don't need to be connected to a BT hub to use Outlook.

Re: Outlook login problem

Thanks

The reason I thought this is that Windows Mail is connected at the office, which I hadn't mentioned earlier, but when I try to connect with Windows Mail from my PC remotely it doesn't let me log on.

I thought therefore perhaps that the intial logon needs to be done while connected to the hub at the office and that after that it can be used anywhere. Anyway I will have a look into things in more detail when I am next at the office hopefully tomorrow.
