Phishing E Mails Purportedly sent by BT 18-12-2017

Go to solution

Hi  Everyone,

I have received a number pf Phishing e mails from the address ebilling@btinternet.com headed Your Latest bill is ready.

The Account number and BT ID numbders are incorrect and the e mail is addressed to Hi Customer not to a first name.

Looking @ the source of the e mail there is an indivudual who has sent the e mail using a BT Internet .com e mail address.

The e mail all look like genuine BT e mails and have all the logo's etc

As usual they are all  shown as having been sent by Libby Barr Managing Director BT Customer Care.

As usual i have forwarded the e mail to Phishing@ BT etc.

For members info.

I would suggest that this is not really the case, but a spammer spoofing a BTinternet email address - perhaps to make end users believe it's genuine - even though the real ones come from a bt.com address.

The header could show the IP address of the sending machine/connection, and that's about all. That machine is probably part of a botnet, so even the actual machine owner will not know their computer is sending phishing emails.

If you like, and if you've still got it - PM me the full header, and I'll take a look Smiley Happy

That's standard, since it's easy to put direct links to correct BT logos in spam emails

I receive similar emails on a regular basis perhaps once a day or more.

I hover over the email sender address and it always shows @btinternet I never bother to actually look at the emails I just treat them as spam. Even when I get the genuine monthly bill notificatiion I don't read it as I always check my BT bill by logging into My BT.

Hi, it's not quite like that really.

At the top of the forum message board, you will see your username, and then an envelope - that's what you click in order to send a PM (use the Send message tab etc).

Simpler just to click on Andy's name on one of his posts and then click 'Send this user a private message'. You know you have the right name then.
