Re: New email system not fit for purpose

Hi, I am also having issues with the webmail (been a user for over twenty years) I have seen you recommend Thunderbird  and help many people so thought I would give it a go. Need a dummies guide as I can't even get past logging in! I get a message saying unable to connect to server check email and password. Tried a couple of times and also Mailbird and eMclient - got same message. I am struggling to understand the replies other people have had within Tunderbird forum and wondered if you maybe able to offer some advice please?

Re: New email system not fit for purpose

Are you either a BT broadband customer or paying for Premium Mail? If neither, you will have Basic Mail which is only accessible via webmail.

Make sure you are entering your email address as xxxx@btinternet.com rather than xxxx@btopenworld.com

Re: New email system not fit for purpose

Yeah I have premium and a broadband customer and have put the correct email address - I have made sure its SSL/TLS etc. I think I am going to have to put up with the webmail as don't know what else to try - thank you for coming back to me. BT have assured me they are working on sorting the issues with the webmail

Hmm, not sure why it isn't working, all you normally have to do with Thunderbird is just enter your email address and password and it just configures itself.

Re: New email system not fit for purpose

I have moved you onto your own thread so that you get answers relevant to your own problem and avoid confusion with the OP of the thread you posted on.

Why are you paying for BT Premium email account if you are a BT Broadband customer?

Can you log onto your MyBT and go to "Your Products"  then "EMail, Manage" and then check the "Type" of email accounts you have?

It should show either Premium or Standard.
