There is nothing in the terms and conditions that limits support to webmail, but then neither does it explictly say they will permit access by client.

You appear to be confusing support and access. You can use whatever client you wish but BT will not be able to give any advice or help (support) other than providing the necessary settings to use. There are simply far too many clients and versions of clients for the helpdesk to be familiar with.

The terms and conditions don't limit access or support to webmail. I understand they can't support all clients but when the problem is clearly with BT's systems then they should fix them. I did start taking one complaint about BT's email to the ombudsman but it got fixed as soon as I escalated it...
