I’ve recently fallen victim to hacking on both my Meta accounts - Facebook and Instagram - where the hacker has managed to change email/phone no. and set up 2FA before starting to post bitcoin scams
This shouldn’t be possible as Meta claim confirmation emails are sent for before any changes can be made.
Being sure I’d missed nothing I checked blocked email accounts to find a whole set of Instagram/Facebook domains in the blocked list - presumably a concerted hacking effort via email to start with.
The only way of retrieving the accounts is to have access to one of the blocked emails allowing me to reject/reverse the change but unblocking the domains doesn’t appear to have dumped any previously received emails anywhere in my mailbox.
Is it a lost cause to hope I might be able to retrieve anything ?
If emails are not showing anywhere in your BTMail account it means that they have been deleted from the BT server and are not recoverable.
As regards blocked email addresses or domains, they are blocked from even getting to your account and as such would not be available.
You should contact Meta to see if they can assist with resending the emails that they sent.
We’re in a loop with Meta - any communication also gets sent to the new account ‘owner’ so unless you manage to beat them to respond (and with 2FA that’s all but impossible) the accounts are lost.
Not giving up just yet but the chances are diminishing by the hour 😢
Are you not able to report the accounts as being compromised and have them locked or get assistance to get back into them.

Yes - but there’s a loophole that they’ve sent an email confirming the change, and as the email wasn’t received (as the domains were blocked) then the account is not recognised.
All potentials have been tried - I’m now reliant on an email to FB to try and circumvent the reporting bots, or retrieving one of the blocked emails containing the change link
