SMTP Authorisation for non-BT addresses

I'm having problems getting outbound SMTP to authorise to the BT SMTP server. I'm using my bt login and password which is NOT an @bt.... address, it's a personal email.  This is the SMTP trace ..

<,220 re-prd-rgout-001.btmx-prd.synchronoss.net ESMTP Service ready,
>,EHLO Exchange.midnyte.co.uk,
<,250 re-prd-rgout-001.btmx-prd.synchronoss.net DSN 8BITMIME PIPELINING AUTH=LOGIN AUTH LOGIN PLAIN DELIVERBY 300 SIZE 41943040,
>,AUTH LOGIN,
<,334 <authentication information>,
>,<Binary Data>,
<,334 <authentication information>,
>,<Binary Data>,
<,535 invalid user ID or password,
>,QUIT,

I'm wondering if it's failing because the auth email isn't BT?

In case it matters the email server I'm sending from is Exchange 2019

Re: SMTP Authorisation for non-BT addresses

You can only authorise on the BT SMTP servers with an @btinternet.com email address.

Simply create one for that purpose if you don't have one.

Re: SMTP Authorisation for non-BT addresses

Seems odd - how do I get a BT address? I'm assuming I'll get one with the Fibre account somewhere but I can't see it anywhere

Re: SMTP Authorisation for non-BT addresses

Why does it seem odd? Why would you expect to authenticate on a BT email server with anything other than a BT email address?

Re: SMTP Authorisation for non-BT addresses

I guess I'm just used to SSO rather  than a bunch of different passwords.  I'm surprised they don't do it like PlusNet where if the request comes from a known PlusNet broadband source it's automatically authorised.  But at least it's working now 🙂

And.... onto SPF records !!
