I have tried to set up smtp for my IP camera so it sends my images by email and this does not work.
I have ried to use mail.btinternet.com and smtp.btinternet.com both give a message cannot connect to the server.
I used pot 25 as expected.
This is also true for Thunderbird.
Hotmail smtp on port 587 is fine for thunderbird(doesn'twork for the camera).
But why doesn't the BT smtp server work?
Only the camera is dependant on port forwarding from the BT hub 4 and this has been set up.

I use mail.btinternet.com for both POP3 and SMTP
POP3 uses port 110
SMTP uses port 25
I tick the box to say my SMTP server requires authentication and I use my username and password.
My username is the bit before @btinternet.com in my email address.

From thunderbird I get, if the smtp configured is only BT.
The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mail.btinternet.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again or contact your network administrator.
So I think the server is rejecting me before I even authenticate.
For thunderbird on my desktop.
If I use smtp.live.com and put in my hotmail account it works a dream. So what is wrong with BT mail/smtp servers?

I dont why you have moved this as this could be an infinity problem. BT mail servers are not working and this may be related to infinity as that is the product I am using infinity 2.

Strange you say that. As we speak BT is moving from Yahoo to its own servers.
My client works with Hotmail but not with BT. What an earth could be different in the set up?
As I said the server is rejecting my requests before I finish authenticating. It is the BT mail/smtp servers that is the problem for sure. I have set up email clients thousand of times. Do you doubt my ability?
