Using a phone or tablet to search emails on the WebMail site delivers an error message. Not sure how I can pass this information through to BT. Search works using the full desktop site version.

Sorry the search doesn't work on the mobile site. I'd be interested to try and get to the bottom of this. Are you able to post a screen grab of what you're seeing (please edit any personal details).
Seems to happen every time since I've been using email on an Amazon Fire tablet - a number of months.
