Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me. My friend, she’s 90 and not computer literate, has a BT email account and periodically strange emails are received by 4 of her friends that appear to be coming from her. She uses a Chromebook to access her email via the website but the problem was present prior to the Chromebook. If anyone can tell me what/where I should be looking to stop these emails.
regards
Rachel

Unfortunately, there is nothing she can do except warn her contacts to be suspicious of mails purporting to come from her.
Her email was probably hacked at some point in the past and her contact list harvested for contacts. The scammers will now be spoofing her address to send to the contacts. Once a contract list has been stolen it can't be 'unstolen' just a paper list stolen in a burglary can't be 'unstolen'.
Get her to change her password as a precaution, but it is shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
