I have a bt email account
I can access this via bt website, android and iPad.
I CANNOT access this same account by Windows 10 webmail, Outlook webmail or Mozilla Thunderbird
ALL come back whining about password or username issues.
I know for a fact that Windows 10 garberates my bt internet.com with ancient yahoo
I suspect Outlook does the same.
what about Thunderbird?
I have wasted hours on this and cannot wait for my contract with bt to expire
Hi @VeryHardly and welcome.
Sorry you're having problems with your email account. I'm assuming the problem is with the password reset issue? If that's the case drop me over the details and I'll look into it for you. You'll get the contact the moderators link in my profile. We're very busy at present so it's taking longer than expected to reply but once you submit the details we'll get to you in turn.
Please could you help me too ? Moderator RobbieMac said for me to post in the forum for the solution but the problem appears a bit more deep rooted than that.
I still have problems accessing my ~~~@btinternet.com email account.
Thanks to BT Help and being told NOT to use MSEdge - instead use MSInternet Explorer. This at least allows me to access my emails on my main PC through the IE browser.
I can also access same account via iPad & Android phone.
My current problem is that it is impossible to access email via Outlook (Webmail, not MSOffice) account and ALSO Windows Mail
and ALSO Mozilla Thunderbird.
My next plan is to downgrade to Office 2003 and try and get that to work
When you are setting up an email client such as Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird or Outlook 2010 you are best to set it up manually and not by using the wizard.
This is the set up for Outlook 2010.
Email address: Full btinternet email address
Account type: IMAP or (POP)
Incoming server: mail.btinternet.com
Outgoing server: mail.btinternet.com
User name: prefix only of email address
Password: Email password
Tick remember password
Do not tick Require password auth (SPA)
Click Button More settings
Tick box my out going server requires authentication
Tick box use same as incoming
Do not tick log onto incoming server

Outgoing server 465 Use following type encryption SSL
If you are setting up any of the other email clients, it is more or less the same.
The BT settings you need are here
If they don't work try using the Yahoo settings
Yahoo POP settings
Yahoo IMAP settings
