Virgin Media rejecting BT emails

Go to solution

I use my own domain for email and normally send using 1&1's SMTP server. Occasionally that gets on the Spamhaus blocklists so then use BTinternet's one which works fine for everything but Virgin. I have set up in my BT email for my domain email as an alternative send address.

I have one particular Virgin address (actually @ntlworld.com) where emails get rejected and I eventually get a bounce message - and 'eventually' is long, I have just received one for an email sent six weeks ago! The bounce message is 'host ntlworld, com is not responding - 4.4.7'.

I suspect it is SPF/DMARC related as the sender (my domain) is different from the bt server. I don't have SPF set up on my domain but could.

Have others experienced these long delay rejections from Virgin/ntlworld especially if using your own domain?

Re: Virgin Media rejecting BT emails

Hi davews,

I, too, have my own domain name but send mail via the BT server.  Also have one virginmedia, com address that is rejected (after 8 days) with the message that the host is not responding and status 4.4.7.

But sorry - no idea why!

I'm getting these rejected emails too using the new BT client, @btinternet.com, and rejecting all ntlworld.com addresses, of which I have several on my mailing lists.

Can I add a "Me Too"?

I have my own server, but am sending emails via BT. I have only noticed the problem with ntlworld addresses. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. When they fail, they aren't bounced back to me for a week or more.

I too have my own server, and since yesterday, it seems like my "domain" is rejecting BTinternet (and yahoo) email addresses ... I did a test from gmail and BTinternet - and only the gmail was received.

The bounce message implies the BTinternet server is on the RBL - not good!

That may be a SpamCop problem, if you use that.

Cisco let the SpamCop domain name expire yesterday, causing a lot of legitimate emails to be classed as spam, saying that they were on the RBL.

I believe that it is now fixed.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't use SpamCop and it's been going on for a couple of weeks at least.

Thanks for all the replies. I had forgotten about my original post and it seems some of the replies took as long as the virgin reject mails... Seems I am far from alone and as for now nobody seems to have a solution.

Hi guys,

Thanks all for posting. I'm sorry you're having a few problems with your email. It might be worth reporting this to postmaster. Take a look at BT Email - best practices for postmasters and senders of email .

Cheers

David
