bt yahoo will not send

I am on a ship connected to wifi to a satellite connection. I can receive emails but the out going stick in the out box. Many other people on the ship have the same problem. Other people who are on Bt mail do not have this problem. My other email addresses work fine. Yahoo worked OK for 2 days then failed to send.

Re: bt yahoo will not send

Hi @Rich13

Satellite connections are known for having poor latency, low data usage and slower speeds.

What are you using to send emails? BT Mail, Apple Mail?...

Thanks

Re: bt yahoo will not send

Hi Albert,

Thanks for your reply, the problem only occurs with BT Yahoo. Hotmail works fine. I have found that it only is a problem on mobile devices.  Using a PC does not have the same problem. I have experienced this, in the past,  while roaming as well with Yahoo when I got nothing in or out. I have been asking to migrate to BT mail from Yahoo for a number of years but I am still waiting.  Yesterday I connected to a good wifi ashore but the message still did not go.

Re: bt yahoo will not send

Can you log onto your email account on your phone using a web browser instead of using an email app?

Are you using the Yahoo email app or do you use a different email app and if so which one.

Check that you do not have any unsent messages waiting to be sent stuck in your phone's email app folders. If you do either delete them or move them to another folder until you have established that your email is sending a test message correctly. Once you have done that you can start to send them one at a time.

Mean while ensure that you are using the BT server settings and not the Yahoo settings.

The correct settings are as per this link.

https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage-email-account/manual-settings/what-are-the-settings-for-outgoin...

You can not, at this time be migrated to from BTYahoo to BTMail and if you ask Customer Services they will either not have a clue what you are talking about or they will tell you that it is not problem and they will move you, which is basically rubbish, you will not be moved.

Re: bt yahoo will not send

Thanks for your info. I am using the Phone's email app which works fine for all incoming emails and my other (Hotmail etc) for transmit. It is only Bt yahoo which fails to send. In the UK I had no problem on GPRS and WiFi.  I always seem to have a problem when abroad.  There have been times when we got nothing on BT but everything else worked.  At least we can send using a PC. The trouble with web mail on a mobile device is that you always have to log in and the format does not suit a mobile device. Thanks for the advice about not being able to migrate to BT mail. As a matter of interest, the problem is common to all our mobile devices regardless to make and model.  As I have a work around I will leave this for now.  Thanks for your response so far.

Re: bt yahoo will not send

You could try using port 25 in your outgoing server settings. The BT servers may not allow the connection because it is not an encrypted port but if it does I would not use it to send anything securely.

If it does not work remember to go back to 465 and if it does work remember to go back to 465 when you return to the UK.

Using a device abroad has been seen to be problematic from posts in this forum, but if you can't send from a mobile device but can from a laptop/PC - is it possible the mobile device is preventing access? (maybe a security issue). However, you do need to make sure the settings are correct as mentioned. When you set up the access, did you choose "Other" or "Manual" rather than letting the device app do it?

Re: bt yahoo will not send

Andy,

As it all works when he returns to the UK there would appear to be nothing wrong with the settings or how the account was set up.
