btinternet email on Kindle Fire HD problem

Does anyone else have problems with btinternet email on their Kindle Fire HD?

My wife has set hers up by choosing yahoo and then just following the prompts. When I go back in to check the settings it has set the account up as IMAP which doesnt seem to work properly. When I enter the POP settings (mail.btinternet.com) it wont connect to the server.

Re: btinternet email on Kindle Fire HD problem

If its the standard Kindle email you are using and are happy with POP3 set up try these settings. (Obviously user name and password are your own BTYahoo ones). You may have used this set up

http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=content&id=SLN4717&locale=en_US&y=PROD_MAIL_ML

If so just check the settings are the same as below.

Incoming:

Username : xxxx@btinternet.com

Password: xxxxxxxx

POP3 Server: mail.btinternet.com

Security: None

Port:110

Delete from server: Up to you

Outgoing:

SMTP Server: mail.btinternet.com

Security type: None

Port: 25

Require Sign in (Tick box)

User Name: xxxxx@btinternet.com

Password:xxxxxxx

Old thread - same old problem Tried these settings and e-mail incoming access fails. Kindle registers server type as IMAP even though I picked POP3

Those settings are no longer current. Port should be 995 for POP3, and 465 for Outgoing SMTP. SSL required for both. Works fine on my wife's kindle fire. Set account up manually.

These settings are applicable for both.

IMAP

Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
Port: 993 (this should be automatically populated if you tick the SSL Encryption)
SSL Encryption: Enabled
Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
Password: your btinternet password

POP3

Server: mail.btinternet.com
Port: 995 (this should be automatically populated if you tick SSL Encryption)
SSL Encryption: Enabled
Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
Password: your btinternet password

SMTP

Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
Port: 465 (this may not be automatically populated on selection of SSL, so you'll need to check this)
SSL Encryption: Enabled (SSL, not STARTTLS)
Authentication: PLAIN
Username: your email address including the @btinternet or @btopenworld.com part
Password: your btinternet password

So is my wife and those settings work. They are the same regardless of provider as Oliver341 has pointed out. Did you set the account up manually as type 'other' rather than Yahoo?

Re: btinternet email on Kindle Fire HD problem

I've now got it to work using the Yahoo IMAP server details given on the BT website. Wonder why BT haven't updated the info. This does leave me with a quesstion as to why the Kindle won't accept the POP3 details whcih work on my desktop converting it to an IMAP account instead but that is a question for another place.
