email security

Hi,

Today I received a text stating that my email account had been locked as it appeared that someone had tried to access it without my permission. I tried to log on on my pc, ran a virus scan as suggested and changed my BTinternet email password. I then updated the password on the mail account on my iphone and can now receive emails on my phone again. I can't access my emails on the pc though - when I try to log on it forces me to set up two factor identification before it will let me progress - I'm not sure if I want to do this as I don't know if it will then hinder my being able to access emails on my phone.  Could anyone please advise?

Thanks.

I have 2FA on my BT account, my phone and PC are trusted devices, if I login with any other device I get a text before I can, so it won't hinder trusted devices but will on any unknown device logins.

Re: email security

You only need to acknowledge 2FA the first time you use your phone to access your email. Once you have acknowledged it and marked it as a trusted device it will not require you to do anything after that.

If you use another device it will require you to acknowledge it on that device. One you acknowledge it you will then be able to access your email.

If you trust that device, ie it is one of your own devices, you mark it accordingly. If you don't trust it ie  you are using another person's computer do not make it a trusted device.
